Texas Teen Driver Education Options
Texas teens can complete Driver Education through either
Instructor-Taught or Parent-Taught.

Option 1 – Instructor-Taught
$550 Complete Package
Package Includes:
- 24-Hour Online Teen Driver Education Course
- 7 Hours Behind-the-Wheel Training with a Licensed Driving Instructor
- 7 Hours In-Car Observation
- Road Test
- School Car for the Road Test
- Free Pickup & Drop-Off in Irving
Step 1 – Complete the 24-Hour Online Course
Register for the Texas Teen Driver Education Instructor-Taught Online Course:
Step 2 – Get the Texas Learner License
After completing the required portion of the online course, the student can apply for a Texas learner license.
The student must be at least 15 years old.

Step 3 – Complete the Driving Training
After receiving the learner license:
- 7 Hours Behind-the-Wheel with a licensed driving instructor
- 7 Hours In-Car Observation
- At least 30 Hours Additional Supervised Practice (10 hours at night) — completed separately by the student with a qualified adult and not provided by Iqra Driving School.
Step 4 – Hold the Learner License
The teen must generally hold the learner license for at least
6 months and must be at least 16 years old
before qualifying for a provisional driver license.
Step 5 – Complete Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD)
Complete the free Impact Texas Teen Drivers course after completing the required
behind-the-wheel driver education and before taking the road test.
The ITTD certificate must be valid when the student takes the road test.

Step 6 – Take the Road Test
The road test is included in the $550 Complete Package.

Step 7 – Get the Texas Provisional Driver License
After passing the road test and meeting all Texas DPS requirements,
the student can complete the process for the Texas Provisional Driver License.

Option 2 – Parent-Taught Driver Education (PTDE)
Online Course + $20 TDLR Fee + $90 Road Test
With Parent-Taught Driver Education, an eligible parent completes the required
driving instruction with the teen.
Step 1 – Purchase the TDLR Parent-Taught Program Guide
Before beginning Parent-Taught Driver Education, the parent should make sure
they are eligible to teach the student and purchase the official TDLR
Parent-Taught Driver Education Program Guide.

Step 2 – Complete the Parent-Taught Online Course
Register for the Texas Teen Driver Education Parent-Taught Online Course:
Step 3 – Get the Texas Learner License

Step 4 – Complete the Parent-Taught Driving Requirements
After receiving the learner license, the eligible parent completes the required
Parent-Taught driving instruction with the student.
- Complete the required Parent-Taught behind-the-wheel instruction
- Complete the required supervised driving practice
- Complete 30 additional hours of supervised driving
- At least 10 of the 30 hours must be at night
- Keep all required Parent-Taught driving logs and records
Step 5 – Hold the Learner License
The teen must generally hold the learner license for at least

Which Option Should You Choose?
Instructor-Taught – $550 Complete Package
Choose this option if you want professional driving instruction from
Iqra Driving School. The package includes the online course,
7 hours behind-the-wheel training, 7 hours observation, road test,
school car, and free pickup & drop-off in Irving.
Parent-Taught
Choose this option if an eligible parent will complete the required driving
instruction with the teen. The cost is the
online course + $20 TDLR fee + $90 road test.
The $90 road test includes our school car and free pickup & drop-off in Irving.
